Community Outreach

Community Outreach Committee has many projects:

•  Brings Northwest Quilters to community programs, including schools, fairs, and special community events.

•  Supports veterans in our community through the Christmas Stocking program, which includes sewing stockings from kits cut by our volunteers; collecting "stuffers" for those stockings from a designated list; and sewing pillowcases from kits distributed during the autumn.  All these items are distributed through community agencies in November-December.

•  Supports the Quilts of Valor
® Foundation by making and awarding patriotic quilts to active military and living veterans touched by war. Learn more here

•  Coordinates NWQ participation in the year-round Kids' Pillowcase Project, which collects standard-sized individually made pillowcases for long-term hospitalized kids (up to age 18) at OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital.  Use your own kid-friendly 100% cotton fabric or sew up a kit available at general meetings. Contact Gail Planck for information.
